Why your rental agency needs its own booking website
Customers search at night, on phones, in three languages. Why a direct booking site beats relying on marketplaces, and what a good one needs.

Customers choose a rental car late, on a phone, and often in the evening. They open three tabs, stay on the one that answers fastest, and in Tunisia they may switch between Arabic, French and English while they do it. If your agency is not on that screen with a clear price and a way to book, someone else is.
Your customers search at night, on a phone, in three languages
Think about how you shop yourself. A family back from work looks for a car for the weekend. A visitor lands in the evening and wants a car at the airport tomorrow morning. A traveller abroad compares agencies from a hotel sofa. None of them wants to wait for opening hours to find out whether a car is free and what it costs.
They also want to read in their own language, and for many of them that means Arabic, with the page laid out from right to left. A site that works in only one language, or that looks broken on a phone, loses customers quietly: you never see them leave.
Marketplaces fill gaps, but they keep the customer
Marketplaces and comparison sites can bring bookings you would not get otherwise, and they are useful in quiet periods. Their trade-offs are worth knowing:
- They take a commission on every booking.
- They hold the customer relationship: the contact details, the reviews and often the last word on conditions.
- Your offer appears next to your competitors' offers, so price becomes the only argument.
Use them to fill gaps, not as your foundation. Ask which of your bookings really came from them: if a customer already knows your name, send them to your own booking page instead.
A direct booking is worth more than its price
When the customer books on your own site, you keep the whole conversation: you know who they are, you can offer extras, you set the conditions, and you can welcome them back next year. Payment-provider fees still exist, but there is no marketplace commission on top.
A simple illustration, with invented numbers: a 7-day rental at 80 TND per day is 560 TND. If a marketplace keeps 15% of that booking, you hand over 84 TND, more than a full day of rental, to be listed. Over a season, that adds up.
Direct customers also give you something no marketplace shares: a contact list. With their consent, keep a simple list of past customers and write to them before the next season, in their language. A short, friendly message is often enough to bring a family back.
Be easy to trust and easy to find
Trust is built before the first message. Show real photos of your cars, your address and phone number, your opening hours, and your terms in plain words: deposit, fuel rule, mileage, minimum driver age. If you display customer reviews, they must be real, and it helps to ask satisfied customers for one a few days after return.
Being found is mostly basics. Customers search for "car rental" plus a city or an airport, so give each location its own page with the name of the place in the title. Keep the site fast on mobile, write in each language instead of using machine translation, and claim your free listing on the main map and search services, with the same name, address and phone number everywhere.
Take payment before arrival and keep WhatsApp close
A booking that has been paid for, even partly, is much less likely to vanish than one that has not. Let customers pay a deposit when they book, and send a confirmation immediately.
For many customers, WhatsApp is the natural way to ask a quick question. Put a WhatsApp button next to the booking form, answer within minutes, and use the chat to confirm details, never to replace the written confirmation or to collect card numbers. Decide who answers, until what time, and what happens at night: an unanswered chat is worse than no button.
What a good booking website needs
| It needs | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Live availability and a total price | Customers book what they can see and trust |
| Arabic, French and English, with right-to-left Arabic | Each customer reads in their own language |
| Real photos and specs for each car category | Customers know what they are getting |
| Locations, hours and meeting points on a map | Fewer questions, fewer missed handovers |
| Clear terms: deposit, fuel, mileage, driver age | No surprises at the counter |
| Online payment and an instant confirmation | Fewer no-shows |
| A fast, readable mobile layout | Many customers first see your site on a phone |
Do not wait for perfection: a simple, accurate site beats a beautiful one that is out of date, and whoever updates prices and availability should be able to do it in minutes. Above all, the availability it shows must be true. A site that offers cars you do not have costs you more than no site at all.
Be honest about what you need today
A branded booking website, with your name, your logo and your colours, connected to your live availability, is included in every Pick2Rent plan. While you prepare it, you can start small: a simple page with your fleet, locations, terms and a WhatsApp button, plus a map listing. In half a day you can list your car categories, photograph one car of each, write your terms and add the WhatsApp button. Compare the options on the pricing page or talk to us.
